With the recent Taco revolution happening in the UK, we figured it is time to give you some tips on how to make your very own corn tortillas. Something that people might not know is that corn tortillas go beyond Tacos. Being a staple of Mexican cuisine, you will almost certainly find them in every Mexican household, this comes as no surprise since they are a great accompaniment to all kinds of food from hearty stews to soups and grilled meat, you name it.

Makes 12 tortillas

Ingredients

2 cups masa harina
265ml water
½ tsp salt

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, mix the masa harina with the salt. Add the water and mix to obtain a smooth dough.
  2. Heat a flat griddle pan. Make a ball the size of an egg, and flatten using a press or a flat bottom plate. Place the ball in between two pieces of plastic to avoid it sticking, until they are approximately 3mm. Repeat the same process until you finish the dough.
  3. Cook the tortillas in the griddle pan on a medium high heat for approximately one minute on each side, until they are slightly golden.

Serving suggestion

Enjoy the tortillas with any meal, make tacos with stews or eat them as an alternative to bread.
