The first Eat Latin supper club was held on the 12th March. The idea was to have friends be the guinea pigs for this new project and this group was more than happy to volunteer.
The evening began with some wine kindly provided by the guests. Making these supper clubs BYOB (bring your own booze) certainly helps the guests relax as they get to drink what they enjoy.
The starter was two flautas (flutes) with either a potato, bean or beef rendang filling. The potato and bean fillings are authentic Mexican fillings with the Malaysian Beef Rendang serving as a great counterbalance. These flautas were quickly eaten in record time with a lucky few managing to grab an extra one.
The evening was going great with everyone enjoying the first and second courses. The main course of dried chillies pulled pork mini baos garnered a particularly positive reaction. This fusion of Latin and Asian food was very interesting to all of the diners. The mezcal shots then joined the party and people were then in the mood for more mezcal rather than dessert (maybe next time guys).
The idea is to run these supper clubs once a month with people enjoying new Latin American flavours they may not be accustomed to. Stay tuned for upcoming dates.
The evening’s menu was:
Potato, Beans and Beef Rendang Flautas
Served on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, cream, salsa taquera and cilantro salsa.
Dried Chillies Pulled Pork Mini Baos
With pickled onions, guacamole and chipotle cream
Buñuelos with ice cream
Vanilla, coconut and homemade cajeta ice cream
